Philippe Doherty (17's Head Coach) 415-385-6151

Coach Doherty begins his second year with the Hoosiers program and comes with a wealth of playing and coaching experience after spending the last 9 years coaching Division 1 basketball and High School basketball.
 
Coach Doherty coached for 4 years on the Men’s Basketball Staff at the University of San Francisco from 2002-2006. In 2007 he assisted at his alma mater, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep High School in San Francisco. Coach Doherty also played his prep basketball at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Francisco where he was a two-time 1st Team All-WCAL player and two-time All-Metro Bay Area selection.
 
He later played for Coach Dick Davey at Santa Clara University for two years where he was a member of two WCC championship teams in 1995-96 and 1996-97, one of which (95-96) advanced to the NCAA tournament. He was teammates with two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash and former Boston Celtic guard Marlon Garnett. Coach Doherty then transferred to UC Davis receiving his undergraduate degree in Economics and French in 1999.
 
He returned to his alma mater, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep and coached the junior varsity for three years before moving on to the University of San Francisco. At USF, Coach Doherty served as the Director of Basketball Operations, Assistant Coach, and Director of Recruiting over his four and a half years. One of his big achievements was creating and directing one of the best high school team camps on the West Coast, over his four years there.

Coach Doherty is a fixture in bay area basketball having coached at the high school and division 1 level but also helping coach at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Super Skills Basketball Camps in the Bay Area and for the past 2 years co-directed the 707's Finest showcase established by Jeremy Russotti. This past year the showcase opened in Fresno (Central Cali's Finest) at Fresno City College. In the Fall of 2008 Coach Doherty and Jeremy Russotti will bring the skill development showcase to Sacramento. Two summers ago Coach Doherty also helped coach the Bay Area Underclassmen in the inaugural Bay Area vs. Sac All-Star game founded and created by Phil Handy and Gus Armstead.

William McDermott (Head Assistant Coach)

Coach "Mack" is in his third year with the Hoosiers. "Mack" has been at Tokay High School in Lodi for 12 years as the Assistant Varsity Boys Coach and was the head coach during the 2006-2007 year. He also coached Varstiy Football and Baseball at Moorpark High School in Ventura County in the 70's. Played collegiate baseball at Cal State Los Angeles and eventually signed with the St Louis Cardinals. Coach Mack will be assisting all programs in many different capacities.

Ed Hawkins (17s Asst. Coach)

Ed Hawkins is in his second year with the Hoosiers. Coach Hawkins is a 1991 graduate of St. Mary's Berkeley, where he was a three year varsity player from 1988 to 1991. Coach Hawkins later attended the College of Alameda, where he earned his Associate of Arts degree in 1994 in Computer Science.

Coach Hawkins comes to the Hoosiers with tons of coaching experience. Ed began his coaching career as the head coach of the junior varsity team/varsity assistant at his alma mater, St. Mary's of Berkeley from 1996 to 2002, where he was a member of the 2001 CIF division IV championship coaching staff. He then became varsity head coach at Oceana High in Pacifica the following year, where his team was a 2003 CCS DIV runner-up and a nor-cal semifinalist during his only year there, finishing with a 22-11 record.

Along with coaching high school basketball, Ed also established the Bay Area Blue Devils in 2000, where he coached the last seven years before joining the Hoosier family.

Joey Nevin (Young Elite Head Coach)

Coach Nevin comes to the Bay Area Hoosier staff most recently as the player/coach of the Castlebar Comets, a 1st Division professional team in Ireland, in 2006-2007. Joe played his high school basketball in San Francisco, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, where he earned 1st Team All-WCAL honors his senior year in 2001. Joe then continued his career at the University of San Diego where he played for Brad Holland. Joey was a member of the 2003 USD team that won the West Coast Conference Tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Joe graduated in 2005 with a degree in both Business Administration and Communication Studies.

Joey currently plays for the Olympic Club team in San Francisco. He also works for the San Francisco Giants and AT and T park in event sales and marketing. Joey is currently in the USF school of Sports Management earning his Master's.

Mark Perelman (Young Elite Asst. Coach)

Coach Perelman joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff with a wealth of coaching experience at the High school and youth level over the past 18 years. Coach Perelman graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Political Science and then earned his law degree from Hastings College. He currently is a partner in the law firm of Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney in San Francisco.

Mark most recently was the Head Junior Varsity coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral where he coached for 4 years. Mark started coaching club basketball in 1990 at the YMCA in the Tenderloin where he currently is the Board Chair. Mark also sits on the SF YMCA Board of Directors.

Bennet Woodward (Young Elite Asst. Coach)

Coach Bennet joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff with both playing and coaching experience. Coach Bennet just recently finished his playing career at Dominican University where he graduated in 2006 with a BA in International Management and a minor in Sports Management. He graduated Cum Laude.

Coach Bennet played for Coach Bill Tressler and guided Dominican to 3 straight Pacific Conference Championships between 2003 and 2005. Dominican University was Top 25 in the country in NAIA reaching a ranking of #5 in the 04-05 season. Coach Bennet currently coaches at Stuart Hall High School in San Francisco.

Tim Fortescue (16's Head Coach)

Coach Fortescue joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff with playing and coaching experience at both the High School and collegiate levels. Tim played his college ball at Siena Heights University from 1996-2001. Siena Heights reached the Final Four in NAIA Division 2 twice during that stretch. Tim graduated from Siena Heights University with a degree in English (Cum Laude).

Tim then coached High School basketball in Michigan for 4 years at De la Salle High School in Warren, MI, and also coached at Saginaw Catholic Central High School. Tim then moved out west where he most recently was an assistant coach at SF State University under Coach Bill Tressler. Tim was an assistant for the 2006-07 season.

Tim Kjar (17's White Head Coach)

Coach Kjar joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff with 13 years of Head College Coaching experience. Coach Kjar played at Feather River JC and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Coach Kjar was the Head Junior College coach at Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota from 1995-1999. Coach Kjar led Riverland Community College to it's best record since 1991 in the 98-99 season. Coach Kjar then became the Head Basketball Coach at St. Catherine's College in St. Paul, MN from 1999-2006. In 2002-03 led the school to it's first winning season since the 1970's.

Coach Kjar has since moved west and is currently the Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Jewish Community High School, a D5 school in San Francisco.

Antwan Capla (16's Asst. Coach)

Coach Capla joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff with coaching experience at the High School level. Coach Capla played Basketball and Baseball at Lowell High School in San Francisco where he earned all-league honors in both and graduated in 2002. Coach Capla then went to play baseball collegiately at Oklahoma City University, graduating in 2006 with a degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis on broadcasting. Coach Capla most recently has coached at Sacred Heart Cathedral High School in San Francisco and is the co-founder and director of Be a Champion Basketball camp in San Francisco.

Kyle Winn (Young E./17's Asst. Coach)

Coach Winn joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff as a Bay Area native. Kyle played baseball and basketball at San Ramon High School in Danville, playing for the legendary Coach John Raynor. Kyle was High School teammates with Mark Madsen, current Minnesota Timberwolves forward. Kyle earned all-league honors in both basketball and baseball and graduated in 1995. He then went to play baseball collegiately at Santa Clara University where he played baseball from 1995 - 1997. Kyle graduated from Santa Clara University in 1999 with a degree in Marketing.

John Woolery (Special Assistant to the Program)

John joins the Bay Area Hoosier staff as one of the more accomplished players in Santa Clara University basketball history. John is a native of Southern California having played at Fairfax High School but played at Santa Clara in the early 1990's where he currently stands 6th on the all-time assists lead. John played alongside Steve Nash for 2 years and led Santa Clara to a 1st round upset in the 1993 NCAA tournament of the University of Arizona. At the time it was the first ever 15th seed win over a 2 seed in tournament history. John graduated from Santa Clara University in 1994 with a degree in Psychology.

John later played overseas and for the San Francisco Olympic Club. John currently is the Head Boy's Varsity basketball coach at Antioch High School where he led them to a 19-9 record. Antioch qualified for the NCS Division 1 playoffs before losing to league rival, De la Salle, in the quarterfinals. John currently works for Aliotti and Woolery, his own mortgage company.
